What do you trust in your daily life? It seems everything could be a fake or trap to you such as a piece of news, a bottle of water and even a smile. The expension of our feelings are much more far and deep than before but there is no evolution of the nature of our life and the way of thinking. People still can not easily distinguish between the fake and the truth in spite of we have pretty much more ways to detect the things.
That's a pretty sweeping comment, and I think it neess some contextualisation. I think one interesting aspect is that we live in a world of simulcrae where nothing is actually authentic. Our sensual responses are denied as our input is channeled through virtual experiences, from mp3 to email to tv. This distancing from the fact and substitution by virtually mediated information or infotainment means that we put our faith, like it or not, in technology and the producer of the text. However, one positive thing resulting from this is that we are increasingly able to interact with these texts and the producer, even if he or she remains anonymous and invisible, enabling clarification, rue formulation of ideas, discussion, debate and empowerment to make our own choices.
ReplyDeleteI think the danger is not the mediation or the information overload (how do we know where to start? How can we fathom the truth?), but remaining passive, being a sponge. We need to be a selective, enquiring, engaged media user and make use of the tools we have to actively search for or even create our own truths.
