Evidence that the medium is the message. Famous stores are closing down as a consequence of competition from online retailers. Competition that they are losing. Slowly the high street is losing some of its ubiquitous brands like hmv and Jessops. We have changed our shopping habits, this has been caused by new media platforms and the possibilities they allow. Thus new media is having a direct impact on the physical appearance and what exists around our cities. A modern day archaeologist might look at western road or Churchill square in 10 years time and and say " in 2014 there were no media retail shops. From this we can deduce that people no longer performed the activity of walking to a physical location, engaging with a staff member, browsing and handling the physical products, nor making transactions with cash money." This is very different from the per Internet age when each town had many record stores, video outlets and so on. I remember those days, and I am one of the many many who now shop through amazon or iTunes from the comfort of my own home........
